Gig Fits #4
i’ve been going to so many shows lately it’s all a blur: i went to nightclub 101 on monday and everyone was there in one of those stressful narrow corridor of 101 ways, i smoked half an american spirit outside to escape and saw rockie rode play a full band set. it was less Fine and more Twang than i would have imagined, everybody already knew all the songs. Rockie sounds like NYC this year and what everyone is going to be listening to in their summertime sadness.
Dani said we’re calling an uber so I left before Operelly played and went over the bridge to Baby’s for the Snuggle night one show. Goodbyehouse was my heartbreak record of being in London last fall and I stood up front with the girls Beth, Melody, Anna, Dani, Georgia which felt right. There’s something kind of sensual about all Copenhagen indie like all the texture of being out all day and the sun is setting and the night is pooled and someone broke your heart in the city. Dani said we’re witnessing a cultural reset with these two sets and I said we are so lucky. I didn’t take any photos of any of the girls and I texted Amanda “I’m too drained to take content right now.”
Last night I went to a [redacted] meeting and it took me an hour to get from Essex to Ridgewood to see the Racecourse set at TV Eye, the new NYC band thing that is actually from the West Coast. I said to my friend “they remind of the Postal Service” and he said “that’s being gracious” but I think twee is back in a different way and they feel more genuine than Racing Mount Pleasant.
I ran into Araya on a date outside smoking. Her skirt is from the Dillard outlet, her top is a slip she got for $2 at the thrift store, necklace is from Buffalo Exchange on Bedford and she was wearing the shoes that inspired me to get pumps this year: fifty percent off at DSW and lowkey perfect. My phone was at almost zero so I took one photo that didn’t get her shoes effectively in the pic but i’ve posted a lot of pics on my personal instagram this year and just know hers were the original inspo. I love that she matched her vape to her drink! We love intentionality.
Nina came from a 12 hour shift working on a film set and was wearing shoes from Paloma Wool, socks from Somatchi, a shirt from a vintage thrift store in San Francisco and a sweater from & Other Stories. Her PBR being the same colorway also kind of giving? I feel like gauchos (do people still call them that) are really back this year (SC103 has some really good ones) and I thought this simple white pair was chic (which she has no idea where she got them, so again, similar to the pumps I’m still working on being able to provide all my followers the affiliate link content..).
Something I love most about the Girls At Shows is that most of us that pull up have been working all day in the same clothes and maybe throw on a sweater or jacket or more perfume and go out into the night. It’s called having a full life. One of my friends called Monday night “the indie Met Gala” and honestly…. it’s fun being the center of your own universe.
Should I do this at C2C this weekend? Dm me if you’re gonna be there x
